2013, Work in ProgressFence project- The piece is inspired by my work as a middle school special education teacher. I have observed the criminalization of our youth within the school environment; I have also bore witness to the school-to-prison pipeline that shuttles our youth straight from classrooms to prison cells. In its present iteration, the piece has both sculptural and performative aspects. The piece itself is a 6’x9’ enclosure created by a fence that mimics a schoolyard fence and a jail cell gate. | 2013, Work in ProgressFence project- The piece is inspired by my work as a middle school special education teacher.
